Tier 1: Basic Driver Training

We created this Basic Driver Training Course specifically for brand-new drivers with fewer than 20 hours behind the wheel. This two-hour lesson begins in a controlled parking lot environment, where students learn the fundamentals of vehicle operation and essential driving skills. As confidence grows, students will progress to more challenging aspects of driving at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for both them and their instructor.
To ensure your teen continues developing safe habits long after the lesson ends, enrollment in our Safe Start Package also includes an exclusive spot in our Train the Trainer — Parent Co-Pilot Course. This specialized session equips you with the same strategies, communication tools, and safety principles we use, so you feel confident and prepared when riding with your new driver. Together, we’ll partner to help you support your teen’s success behind the wheel.
Tier 2: Proactive Tactical Driving

Our Proactive Tactical Driving Course was created by law enforcement officers with one goal in mind — make sure your teen comes home. After all, the number one rule in law enforcement has always been “you go home at the end of your shift.”
Designed for students with more than 20 hours of driving experience who already have a basic understanding and comfortability operating a motor vehicle. Students immediately begin the lesson on main roads and progress quickly into developing a Proactive Tactical Driving mindset by learning how to navigate large intersections, scanning for potential threats and anticipating other motorists mistakes before they happen. This lesson also includes merging and interstate driving.
Missouri Drivers License Exam Preparation

Nervous about taking the Missouri Highway Patrol driving exam — or dreading parallel parking? You’re not alone, and we’re here to make sure you walk in fully prepared.
Our 2 hour Test Preparation Course walks you through the exact course and maneuvers you’ll be expected to complete during the official Missouri Highway Patrol exam. You’ll practice each component step-by-step, including parallel parking, until you can perform it with confidence and consistency.
By the time your test day arrives, you’ll know exactly what to expect, how to do it, and feel fully ready to pass.
At the 10-81 Driving Academy, we believe students learn best in a calm environment. Our instructors are current and former law enforcement professionals who regularly handle high-pressure situations with confidence and composure. Compared to what they face on duty, guiding a new driver is a welcome change — and their ability to remain steady, patient, and focused creates an ideal learning atmosphere for your teen.
Tier 1: (Foundations / Essential Skills / Launch) – For students with less than 20 hours of driving experience
A structured, stress-free introduction to driving.
This course is designed by law enforcement officers for the brand-new driver who needs guided experience from day one. Students begin in a controlled parking lot environment where they learn:
Vehicle controls & setup
Parking
Smooth acceleration and braking
Steering fundamentals
Turning & lane positioning
Introduction to early hazard recognition
Basic road safety
Neighborhood/ side streets
Introduction to main roads and major intersections
Tier 2: (Main Roads / Interstate / Identify and Respond to Threats) – For students with more than 20 hours of driving experience
Move beyond basics and develop a Proactive Tactical Driving mindset
This course is designed by law enforcement officers for the new driver who needs guided experience but has more than 20 hours of driving experience. Students begin immediately on main roads where they are trained in the following:
Navigating large intersections
Scanning intersections and identifying threats.
How to respond to threats when they are presented
Identifying hazards before they happen
Identifying and addressing distracted and drunk driving
Merging
Interstate driving
Downtown Kansas City highways
